Grays, Thurrock Rotay Club hands out over £6000 to Childrens Charities

Over lunch this thursday, Grays Thurrock Rotary Club gave out all the money that had been collected over the Christmas period. In total, this year £6000 was donated to the four nominated charities : Great Ormond Street Hospital, Little Havens Hospice, Barnardos and Treetops School in Grays. The Scouts too were rewarded for helping out so brilliantly yet again. Representatives were present from all the organisations and were thrilled to be receiving the monies.

President Raj Mohile also thanked the Supermarkets Asda, Sainsburys and Tesco for their continued support and use of their stores for collections. The Orchard Garden Centre received special thanks for their daily help in the handling, counting and bagging of such vast amounts of small change.

Following the sleigh in the cold and wet evenings in darkest december or standing outside a supermarket in subzero temperatures shaking a tin may seem difficult and unpleasant at the time but they do make a difference to people's lives and everyone who volunteered was thanked by Raj and the Sleigh Committee headed up once again by Stewart Abbott who has done a marvellous job of coordinating the whole 2012 operation.......Well Done Stewart!

A special award was given this year by the Sleigh Committee to the Webmaster recognising the work put in publishing the sleigh routes, volunteer lists and daily totals thus keeping the whole operation more visible and open to the members and public alike. The shape of things to come!
