On Sunday 26th April youngsters from Thurrock took part in the RYLA (Rotary Young Leaders Awards) held this year at Danbury Youth Centre

The group from Treetops School, The Convent and the Thurrock Sea Cadets had to complete challenges set by the RYLA leaders .

The goal of the weekend was to encourage the development of teamwork and leadership skills in young people who have the potential to be future community, professional and business leaders. This is achieved by making use of outward bound activities to create various environments for them to operate in. It was hoped that the challenges set would help to build team spirit to enable them to work effectively, encourage the recognition and use of skills in others, discover things about themselves, build confidence in themselves to mention a few.

Although the weather was rather cold and wet everyone joined in and had a good time. Rotarian Nick Wilkinson said ‘the laughter and smiles on the faces on the youngsters indicated everyone was having a good time. Our club, The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock was pleased to be involved with the project, once again, and provide financial support so that the event could be run free of charge for the participants’.
