Earlier this year Grays Thurrock Rotary Club provided Thurrock District Scouts with a grant towards the much needed refurbishment of the Abseiling Tower, located at the Condovers Scout Activity Centre in West Tilbury. This grant represented 20% of the estimated funding of the material costs, the Scouts provided the majority of labour free of charge.

At the beginning of September Thurrock District Scouts announced that they had raised the remaining funds and the refurbishment of the Abseiling Tower was completed and the Tower Opening Ceremony was held during the local Down’s Syndrome family network activity camp, hosted once again by Thurrock Scouts.

The Tower was opened by Anita Travis (left) , who had received a Jack Petchy award for her services to Scouting (Congratulations Anita), and had donated her award to this project. Grays Thurrock Rotary donated £300 to the refurbishment fund of the abseiling tower at the Condovers Camp Site.

Condovers is used by all scouts in Thurrock and sometimes those outside the borough for camping and associated activities.

Good Luck to all who Descend !
