TGIF's were run by the Rotary Stanford & Corringham and were developed from a New Zealand concept of a Pot-Luck Supper. The idea is that someone opens up their home to host the TGIF and members come along with some food and drink (not loads, just what they would reasonably eat and drink). Kiwi's call them Pot-Luck Suppers because you do not know what you are getting until you arrive - you could be eating Apple Pie all night or Chicken Wings till you are fed up with them - that is the fun :-) The host will often provide a base for example some BBQ sausages, a Chilli, or a fruit salad and some bottles of soft drinks. But that is not a requirement. The idea is that it is cheap for the host to lay on and members also have a cheap but fun social evening. This is the first one for the Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock and will be hosted by President Dave at his home. All members and their partners/guests are welcome to come along. Please book in using the link on the left (only available to logged in members) or let Dave know. This replaces the normal 5th Thursday evening on 30 July - We can't hold a TGIFriday on a Thursday ;-) |

President Dave will lead members and friends on an up to 10 mile walk from Pitsea to Southend. Meet at Pitsea Station Car Park ready to set off at 10am on Saturday 19 September. End time will depend on walking speed and how long we spend eating and drinking! We will park at Pitsea Station and will then mainly follow the new King Charles III England Coast Path. We will take in Benfleet, Hadleigh Country Park, the London 2012 Olymipc Mountain Bike Circuit, Leigh, Westcliff and the Southend Promenade. We finish at the Longest Pleaseure Pier in the world. The route passes stations on the C2C railway line where people can drop out and take the train back to Pitsea Station. Those who complete the whole walk will then take the train from Southend Central Station back to Pitsea Station after partaking in fish and chips or a Rossi icecream. Refreshment stops will be made at Leigh and Westcliff. This is purely a fun activity, no charge is made and no sponsorship is expected. Members can register themselves and guests using the on-line option after logging in. Or let Dave know you wish to take part. |
