The 'Mathletics' competition was a huge success enjoyed by a whopping 27 out of possible 35 primary schools and Grays Thurrock Rotary were in the thick of it.

Yes, 27 Thurrock primary schools recently participated in the second annual Mathletics Competition hosted by The Gateway Academy and sponsored by The Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock.

Year 6 pupils concentrated for 90 minutes on maths questions that really challenged them. They found this an exciting challenge where team-work, problem solving and concentration in a highly competitive competition added to their life experiences.

Year 9 students from the Gateway Academy worked hard collecting and marking answer sheets while the participants excitedly watched their scores being displayed on a big screen throughout the competition.

Congratulations go to Warren Primary School who won the competition with Shaw Primary coming second, closely followed by Deneholm in third place.

All of the children that took part appeared to enjoy both the excitement and the nerves that came with them and enjoyed the experience of working together as a team.  We are sure this will be a day that they will remember with great pleasure and recognition that they all did amazingly well.

President of the Rotary Club of Grays Thurrock, Mr Iain Ramsay,  commented “It is an absolute pleasure to be involved with schools in this way. The pupils seemed to really enjoy the event and we are delighted to sponsor this event for the second year running.”
