There were lots of fun and a good turnout of Club members and their guests, at the Quiz Night at the Thurrock Rugby Club on 16th October.  Quiz Master John Smith set a challenging set of questions to the teams present. As an example, “if you held a large rock whilst standing in a boat on a pond and dropped the rock in the pond, would the pond rise, fall or stay at the same level “– answer below.

Apart from the quiz there was the usual ‘Heads and Tails’ competition, a raffle with prizes kindly donated by members and the Rugby Club laid on a delicious Ploughman’s meal.  The bar was open all evening and kept us truly watered.

The results were close but the winners were the Kevin Watkins family team with an impressively high score.  However, the biggest winners were those who attended having some great fellowship, food and drink.

A grateful thanks to the Thurrock Rugby Football Club for the use of their premises, bar and laying on the food.  Thanks also goes to the quiz organisers, John B Smith, Bob Paterson, the MC for the evening and Peter Hoche for handling the scoring.   The evening raised a record breaking £1,410 for the End Polio Now Campaign and Rotary Foundation.  Oh yes, the answer to the quiz question was: The pond would rise because the rock displaces less water when submerged in the pond than when its weight was supported by the boat. So now you know.
