Our guest of honour at the Clubs Speaker Meeting on 6th February, was the Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Kairen Raper.   The Mayor said she was proud of her Tilbury roots and thanked our club for the help and service we give to the Thurrock community.  She then gave a light and informative talk, focussing on her road to becoming Mayor and some of her duties.   She has been a Thurrock Councillor since 2021 and was elected by her fellow councillors as the 50th Mayor in May 2024.  Her role is non-partisan and she chairs Thurrock Council Meetings and represents the King in such instances as the granting of citizenship. It was proving to be a very busy Mayoral Year, attending everything from a beer festival, to citizenship granting ceremony’s, from charitable events in Essex to Remembrance Parades, from cycling marathons to the giving of awards to residents for their service to the borough. The Mayors charity this year is the Thurrock Food Bank, a charity that this club has and continues to support.

Also, at the lunch was Angela Mitchell from Tesco Supermarket and Kim Morgan from Asda Stores, who had helped the club with events and support over the years, particularly at Christmas.   The Mayor presented both guests with, Certificates of Appreciation for their continued support.
